The wait is over, time for the NFL’s most anticipated game of the year. Super Bowl LIV will feature the (13-3) San Francisco 49ers vs the (12-4) Kansas City Chiefs. The 49ers will be looking for the franchises 6th Super Bowl title, whereas the Chiefs will try to get their first since Super Bowl IV. Who will come out on top and bring home the championship?
The opening score of the game would come off the leg of Robbie Gould. Gould would kick a 38-yard field goal for a 3-0 start to the game. That high octane Chiefs offence would answer with a touchdown. Patrick Mahomes would do some damage with his legs as he’d run in 2-yards for a 7-3 Chiefs lead. That was all the scoring in the 1st quarter but we’d pick up right where we left off in the 2nd. Starting the quarter was a 31-yard field goal by Harrison Butker to make it a 10-3 game. This was answered by Jimmy Garoppolo and Kyle Juszczyk as the pair would connect for a 15-yard score and tie the game at 10-10. That would do it for the half as the teams would make this the 4th Super Bowl to ever go to the half in a tie.
After the halftime show The 49ers would kick a field goal of 42-yards to take the lead. Now up by a 13-10 score the 49ers would add to the lead as they’d score a touchdown and go up by another 7. The ground game would enter the score-sheet as Raheem Mostert would punch in a 1-yard touchdown to make it a 20-10 game with one quarter left. The Chiefs would come alive in the 4th quarter however as they’d score an early touchdown. Mahomes would connect with his favourite target Travis Kelce for a 1-yard score and cut the deficit to 20-17. Then the Chiefs would take the lead as Mahomes would connect with Damien Williams for a 5-yard touchdown giving the Chiefs a 24-20 lead. Then Williams would drive home the dagger with a 38-yard run to the end-zone that would add to the lead making it 31-20 Kansas City. The 49ers would try to mount a comeback but would ultimately fall short as Garoppolo would toss an interception and ice the game at 31-20 Chiefs.
With that win the Kansas City Chiefs would take home the franchises 2nd ever Super Bowl. Patrick Mahomes would be crowned the Super Bowl MVP going 26/42 for 286 yards, 3 touchdowns(one on the ground) and 2 interceptions. This would essentially break the Madden curse and solidify the Kansas City Chiefs as the best team in the NFL!
