We’ve reached the final round before the Super Bowl, Th AFC Conference Final. This pivotal match-up will feature the (9-7) Tennessee Titans taking on the (12-4) Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs got here off a first round bye and then a 24-point comeback win over the Houston Texans. The Titans snuck in through the Wild Card where they beat the New England Patriots, and then the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Divisional round. Would the Cinderella story continue for Tennessee, or would the high octane offence of Kansas City finally end the run?
Find out how the Chiefs got here!
Tennessee would score on their opening drive off the leg of Greg Joseph. Joseph would hit a 30-yard field goal to give the Titans an early 3-0 lead. After the Chiefs had to punt, the Titans would add to their lead thanks to their most dangerous weapon. Running-back Derrick Henry would take the ball 4-yards for the touchdown increasing the lead to 10-0. This touchdown was answered immediately by the Chiefs who’d score a touchdown of their own. Quarterback sensation Patrick Mahomes would find Tyreek Hill for a 8-yard touchdown to end the 1st quarter 10-7. The touchdowns would continue to come fast and furious in the 2nd quarter. Tennessee would restore the 10-point lead off the arm of Ryan Tannehill. The target was Dennis Kelly for a 1-yard touchdown pass that made it 17-7 Titans. This score was also answered with a touchdown. Hill would haul in the ball for a 20-yard score this time making the Titans lead 17-14. That’s when the lead would shift as the Chiefs would score another touchdown the following drive. This time Mahomes used his feet as he scampered 27-yards into the endzone, giving the Chiefs their 1st lead of the game at 21-17. That’s where it ended at the half, but still plenty of football was left to be played.
It will probably come as a shock to people that there were no points scored in the 3rd quarter of the game. That’s the result of 3 long drives that ended up going nowhere, but do not despair as the 4th had plenty of scoring. In fact the Chiefs would score a touchdown on just their 2nd play of the quarter. Damien Williams would run the ball 3-yards for the score and 28-17 lead. Kansas City would then add another touchdown as Mahomes would find Sammy Watkins for a 60-yard touchdown! Now down 35-17 the Titans needed answers, and they would find a chink in the armour. This time Tannehill found a deep target in Anthony Firkser for a 22-yard touchdown cutting the Chiefs lead to 35-24. That is where the game would finish as Tennessee would turn it over on downs during their final drive.
With that win The Kansas City Chiefs will move on to the Super Bowl! There they will play the winner of the later game between the Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers.
