The second playoff match-up on tap for Saturday was certainly a shocker. Wild Card game 2 featured the (12-4) New England Patriots against the (9-7) Tennessee Titans who barely sneaked into the playoffs off a late season surge. The re-emergence of Ryan Tannehill has seemingly awoken a beast in Tennessee. A beast that was poised to try to eliminate a former division rival in the Patriots who find themselves in a very peculiar spot being in the Wild Card game. The game certainly didn’t disappoint.

Just like the previous game the opening drive resulted in a score. The Patriots would get a 36 yard field goal off the leg of Nick Folk for an early 3-0 lead. The Titans would answer back in a hurry as Ryan Tannehill would find Anthony Firkser for the 12 yard touchdown and the 7-3 Titans lead. This would end the 1st quarter but the scoring at the half was not done yet. In fact the Patriots would score a touchdown of their own on the opening play of the 2nd quarter. Julian Edelman would scamper into the end-zone from 5 yards out to retake the lead at 10-7. The teams traded punts for a while until Folk was called upon again from 21 yards out. Folk made no mistake and gave the Patriots a 13-7 lead. This lead was short lived however as Derrick Henry would find pay dirt. The Tennessee running back would drive his way into the end-zone from a yard out giving the Titans a 14-13 lead to end the half.
That’s where the scoring would dry up all together. The only result of any drive in the 3rd quarter was punting the ball away. As a result the score remained 14-13 Titans after 3-quarters of play. Then the 4th quarter started with an immediate interception by the Patriots so that was exciting. Nothing would come out of that however. In fact there was only one score in the half, and it came around the very end. With his team down by a single point all Tom Brady had to do was get the ball to within field goal range. They needed to cover ground fast and that’s where the game was put away. Brady would be picked off by Logan Ryan who’d take it 71 yards for the pick-six, and with a failed 2-point convert the Titans sealed the win at 20-13.

It’s funny isn’t it? All the Patriots had to do was beat the Dolphins in the final regular season game and they’d have had a bye to the division finals. Instead it’s the Titans who’s Super Bowl Dreams remain in tact as they’ll play the Baltimore Ravens for a date in the AFC Conference Finals!
